When I reinstall Windows on any machine, the main problems are not backing up data, installing the OS, etc. It is getting all the drivers back on the computer so I can do simple things such as use my wireless card. It isn’t just me- drivers frustrate a lot of people and thankfully someone has done something about it, and created a way to ease the pain of installing drivers.  There is now a program called Driver Backup 2, I’d highly suggest using it before you rebuild your machine.  However I don’t use Windows, so I never tested it out but if it doesn’t work you only lost 5 minutes.  If it does work you may have saved yourself 30 minutes or more. The bottom line? Its definitely worth a shot. Download Now!

Tip TuesdaySome of your Windows installs can become sluggish over time, and in contrast to my other Quick Fix on Clearing your system memory, you can speed up your computers shutdown process with another shortcut icon! Here is a quick fix, by creating a Shortcut icon to click on when you want to shutdown your computer, without the wait!

  1. Right click on your Desktop and go to: New > Shortcut
  2. In the location box, type this in: shutdown -f -t 0
  3. Click Next, and for the Shortcut name call it “Shutdown Now!” or “Shutdown QuickFix”… what ever you want.
  4. When done, click Finish.

Next time you feel like shutting down your computer (if you do), then click this desktop shortcut and it will shutdown your computer without the wait.

Clear Memory QuicklyIf you are like me, you never want to shut you computer off. Though this probably isn’t the most economical thing to do, we still do it anyways (don’t ask why). From prolonged use of a computer without shutting it off, the computer will eventually become sluggish and the memory usage will continue to climb up the ramp. Heres a quick fix, by creating a Shortcut icon to simply click on when ever your computer is slow to restore its memory usage.

  1. Right click on your Desktop and go to: New > Shortcut
  2. In the location box, type this in: %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
  3. Click Next, and for the Shortcut name you call it “Clear Memory” or “Memory QuickFix”… what ever you want.
  4. When done, click Finish.

Next time your computer is running slow after prolonged use, exit all of your running applications and double click your “Clear Memory” icon on your Desktop.
