Don’t you hate long car rides? They’re boring and a waste of time, right? Wrong! There are lots of things you can do during car trips. Some are productive, and others are just something to keep you busy until you reach your destination. Here’s what the ninjas on the forums came up with:
- Play an easy game (such as Tetris, Scrabulous, Texas Hold’em) on your Laptop, iPod, or Phone.
- Tether your laptop to your cell phone and browse the internet (Check your data plan first. You wouldn’t want to get slapped with a $2/MB fee on your next bill!)
- Find the Alphabet (in order) using license plates.
- Play Padiddle.
- Play offline games such as GTA or Portal
- Listen to music or watch Videos/Movies
- Read
- Punch Buggy
- Cruiser Bruiser
- I Spy
- Rubix Cube
- Homework/Studying
- Photoshop
- Sleep
Have anything to add to the list? Visit the Car Rides UPT thread and give us your ideas!

Someone getting into your email not only violates your privacy but also your safety. Did you know if someone has access to your email they can get into almost any website you have an account on? Well google silently rolled out a new feature to gmail a while ago to aid in just this!
If you log into your gmail and go near the bottem of the page it will say something like this:
Last account activity: 17 minutes ago on this computer. Details
Now if you click on the details it will show the last 5 connections to gmail, if you see a different IP Address connected to it via web/pop/etc and you aren’t aware of that connection there is a good chance someone is snooping in on your emails. If you see a unrecognized address i reccomend tracing the ip to see a general location where it comes from. You can do this by going to http://www.hostip.info/ and entering the IP. If it is from a distant place it is very likely you have been hacked and should do the following:
- Change your password to not only email but any sensitive information such as your bank account.
- Click the “Sign out from all locations” that is displayed when clicking details mentioned above
- Monitor your status closely

If you have ever taken anything apart you probably know how hard it is to keep track of the screws you take out. When you put the project on hold and come back to it, it becomes even harder to keep track of every screw. However as screws are magnetic all you need to do is grab a magnet and place the screws on the magnet. The screws will stick to it making it them not only easier to see but prevents them from rolling around!

Have you ever tried to search google and wished it would only show you new stuff? Well here is a short story of myself realizing just how much of a time saver being able to do this is.
I had bought an Xbox 360 on a day which Xbox Live was down or maintenance. However when Xbox Live is down and you try to connect it does not say “Xbox Live is Down” I had got a MTU Failure. I was searching google for MTU Failure and just came to old pages with possible ways to fix it playing with your router/calling your ISP. I did all of that and still came up puzzled, then i remembered i could have google show me only new pages within the past 24 hours(which are normally which are almost unfindable if you do a normal search), via this tutorial. I had plugged searched Xbox live MTU Fail and set it for 24 hours and came to find the first 10 results were full of pages explaining this is because Xbox Live is down.
However before i realized how smart it would be to search by date i wasted 2 full hours trouble shooting the MTU. So hopefully next time you come to a similar issue you can save time by doing this trick.
Some Possible Extra Uses of Searching Google by Date:
- Getting reviews of a new product/game, you can filter out old pages which would just have pages describing what the product is suppose to do and building hype.
- The latest tech product news such as an IPhone.
- Have more uses? Please leave comments!

Have you ever wanted to save an audio from online radio stations, myspace, etc? Well here is a quick and dirty way of recording the sound comming from your speakers! It works on windows, macs and linux but the good doesn’t stop there! The software to do it is 100% free.
Needed Software:
Audacity
Steps:
- Open up Audacity
- Near the upper right of audacity there is a drop down box i believe Microphone is the default option, however it may also say Stereo Mix, Phone, Line In, Aux, Microphone, or CD Player.
- Click on this box and select Stereo Mix, this is basically telling it to grab what is coming out of your speakers.
- Now is a good time to close all applications you aren’t using such as AIM, Gtalk, Facebook, etc. This is because we are going to grab all sound coming from the speakers,so if you are recording an online radio and got an IM. That IM sound would be in your recording, talk about annoying.
- Click on the record button it is the big red circle, next to the play button(green triangle).
- Start the audio you wish to be recorded.
- Click on the stop button(red square)
- When your done save it by going to File and then Export as wav . you may also choose Export as mp3, the mp3 option will leave you with a smaller file size.
Tips
- You can trim/cut out pieces of the audio by highlighting it and pressing delete. If you realize you cut out to much just press ctrl+z to undo.
