Ever buy an iPhone app and realize it was complete garbage after you purchased it? Well there is a fairly big “piracy scene” out there, so you technically don’t have to pay for an app.  However we highly recommend you just use this method to “test” out apps before you buy them, we know there are a lot of bogus apps in the app store.   It will probably take about 5-6 minutes to prep your iPhone to run pirated apps, once it is prepped you will be able to get the apps you want in mere seconds!  If at any time you run into a problem performing any of these steps, ask us in our Forums.

You will need:

• Jail Broken iPhone/iTouch running firmware 2.2.1 and PC/Mac on a wireless network. Guide Here
• OpenSSH installed(install via cydia[sections>networking>OpenSSH])
• Modified MobilesInstallation binary (place on your desktop)
• Windows Users to have SSH/SCP clients, you may follow this guide, Mac has this built in

How To

First time only

1. Verify your iPhone is running firmware 2.2.1
   • Settings > General > About > Version
2. Your iPhones IP Address
   • Settings > Wi-Fi > Click the Blue Arrow next to your connected nework
3. Ensure atleast 1 application is installed(it doesn’t matter if it is free or not)
4. Unzip MobileInstallation and ensure it is on your desktop
5. Open Terminal(osx)/command prompt(windows)
6. Copy MobileInstallation to /root on your iphone [password=alpine] (If you have not ssh’d into your iphone this may take a minute or two the first time)
   • scp MobileInstallation root@*iphoneIPhere*:/root
7. SSH Into your iphone, user root password alpine
   • ssh root@*iphoneIPhere*
8. Change Permissions(777) on /private/var/mobile/Applications
   
   • chmod -R 777 /private/var/mobile/Applications
9. Create the folder /private/var/mobile/Documents
   • mkdir /private/var/mobile/Documents
10. Change Permissions(777) on /private/var/mobile/Documents
    • chmod -R 777 /private/var/mobile/Documents
11. Create /Applications/Documents
    • mkdir /Applications/Documents
12. Change Permissions(777) on /Applications/Document
    • chmod -R 777 /Applications/Documents
13. Create a backup of MobileInstallation
    • mv /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework/MobileInstallation /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework/MobileInstallation.bak
14. Copy modified MobileInstallation to where MobileInsallation
    should be
    • mv MobileInstallation /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework
15. Change the permissions of the MobileInstallationfile to 775
    • chmod -R 775 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework/MobileInstallation

To Copy Application

1. Just drag the .ipa file into iTunes and synch up

Jailbreaking your iPhone leads you into many possibilities; you can run apps that apple has disapproved, run pirated apps, and much more.  If you own an iPhone and use another carrier do NOT upgrade to 2.2.1, you can safely upgrade to 2.2.  For help with that ask us in our forums.
OS X 10.5.6+ Only

1. You will need an account with ADC (Apple Developer Connection) this is free and takes a few minutes to sign up, you should read the terms and conditions carefully and you should only sign up if you are thinking of developing applications in the future – http://developer.apple.com/mac/
2. Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily Log release for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 – this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension).
3. Install IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg from within the disk image
4. Reboot your system!

The Jailbreaking!

1. Ensure your device is running 2.2.1, to check this on the iPhone go to Settings > General > About and look at the Version.  If you are not running 2.2.1 please go into iTunes and upgrade
2. Download Quickpwn. OS X Download, Windows Download
3. Have your iPhone plugged into your computer and run QuickPwn
4. It will automatically detect your device, just click on the picture with a Green Check!
5. It will ask if you want to replace some icons, I chose yes but it doesn’t matter one bit!
6. It will give you instructions such as to power your phone off, it is important to do exactly as it says.  These are instructions to enter DFU mode so it can perform the jailbreak
7. It will say it succeeded and will be doing some work behind the scenes for the next few minutes and then reboot your phone.

My Cydia(jailbreak apps) Recommendation

• Networking – OpenSSH – This gives you the ability to SSH(remote commandline) into your phone from a computer.  You may not use this now but in the future you may need it to do some things such as install pirated apps. (FREE)
• Multimedia – Cycorder – This is a video camera for your iPhone.  It’s amazing you need to jail break to get this feature. (FREE)
• System – Backgrounder – Runs applications in the background, i find this most useful for AIM (FREE)
• Networking – PDANet – This will let you tether your connection from your iPhone to your Pc.  This gives you the ability to get internet on your laptop anywhere you have cell service ($30) - JuneFabrics.com
• System – IntelliScreen – This is a revamped “lock screen” that shows basically anything you want.  Whether it bee your email, calender, text messages, sports, weather or a combination of the above without ever unlocking your iPhone. ($9.99) - intelliborn.com

Here’s a helpful tutorial for all of the aspiring photographers out there. This will cover most of the basics of taking pictures with film cameras. For this tutorial, I will be referring to the Cannon FP1 camera, as it is the most common camera used by beginners, however, these tips can be used for most cameras.

Get a REAL Camera:

If you want your work to look really professional, you will want to get a real camera. Unless you have an extremely nice one, digital cameras take a lot of the control away from you with auto focus and digital zoom. They are also subject to shutter lag, which can be extremely frustrating when working with moving subjects. A good film camera may only cost around $100-$150. I got my Canon FTb (pictured above) for only $100 dollars with a strap and lens, so there are deals out there. Make sure that the camera has the following features:

Adjustable Shutter Speed, Aperature, and ASA; Flash Port, Upgradeable lens, Battery powered Aperature/Shutter speed indicator (aka. needle).

Another advantage of the film camera is that if you focus properly, they take very sharp pictures (depending on your film).

Know Your Location:

Whenever you know where you will be taking photos, you should prepare your camera for it. For example, if you want to take pictures in a Darker Environment (Inside of a building or at night), make sure that you have a flash (and a flash diffuser which you can find at most photo accessory stores), and film with a higher ASA

ASA is the rate that the film absorbs the light and exposes. A higher ASA has the advantage of working in darker environments becasue it exposes much faster than a lower ASA. The disadvantage of having a high ASA is that you loose contrast and sharpness with each level.

ASA                          25 <————————————————————————–>1000

Exposure Time   Slower <———————————————————————> Faster

Sharpness              Sharp <———————————————————————-> Dull

So if you are in a very bright environment (ex. Hiking on a bright summer day) you will want a film with an ASA from 50-200. If you are taking pictures inside of a Building, you will want an ASA of about 400-500. And if you are taking pictures at night, you will want an ASA of about 700-800 (Unless you have a flash).

Composition:

You always want to take a good look at what you are capturing, as long as it is stationary. If you are taking a picture of a statue or a crowd of people, take a step back and choose your angle wisely. One mistake people make is trying to line up the horizon with the center of the camera. This is normally something you will want to avoid. The horizon should be away from the middle. This makes the viewers eyes focus on the subject, and not on the background.

Also make sure you take a good look at your subject. Is it in Focus? Does it have enough light?  When doing portraits you should never show under the waist. When doing bust shots, try to focus on the eyes. This helps to capture the subject’s emotion.

Set your camera up:

Before you take your picture, make sure that the shutter speed and aperature match up. If you have a newer camera, you will have the DOF Indicator or “Needle”. Make sure that it is centered so that you know the settings are correct. After the needle is centered, check your focus. Most cameras have a highly sencitive area in the middle of the view to more accurately focus. If you are correctly focused, the part of the image in the circle will be sharp. If you are not, the image will be pixelated.

If you want to take a still image of something, put the aperature setting to around 300-1000. This is faster than the blink of an eye and will ensure that your image is a still shot.

Developing the Film:

I wont go into the developing process. If you have your own dark room, you probably know how all of the chemicals work. However, if you dont have one, the best place to have your photos developed is Costco. Their processing is fast and cheap, and, it produces great results! (For a more artistic look allways try to get your pictures developed with borders!)

And that’s about all you will need to know to get started. But remember that there’s no teacher like experience. You will always make mistakes on your first tries. Just try to figure out what you did wrong and try to learn from it. Good Luck!

For those who don’t know what twitter is it is basically a social network which allows people to broadcast a line to their audience.  If your familiar with facebook it is basically just a stripped down version of facebook that only does the “status updates”.

There is a major loophole with Called-ID blocking, that is it is not blocked against 1800 numbers.  The reasoning behind that is 1800 numbers technically pay to accept the call, so they can see the information.  Once you sign up for their service here, it will instruct you to how to forward rejected/missed calls to them so they can see the caller id information and then will forward the call back to you with the caller id information!  During all this time all the caller will hear is the phone ringing.
