We had covered hacking the AppleTV some time ago, well it is now a new year and we will update our guide! We will be showing you how to install a software called Boxee on your AppleTV, this will be 100% free and allow you to use Hulu(popular tv streaming site) along with play any video file you can imagine! I myself have a NAS(network attached storage) loaded with a bunch of TV Shows/Movies and my AppleTV streams off of that!

What You Need

• Apple TV(update to the latest version)
• USB Drive atleast 512mb(all data will be erased)
• OSX or Windows
• Boxee Account (Ask in Forums for an Invitation)

How To

1. Download AppleTV USB Creator
   OS X People: Want ATV-USB-Creator
   Windows People: Want ATV-Win
2. Unplug all USB Drives from your computer. This step is to ensure you select the correct thumb drive and do not erase data on the wrong drive.
3. Insert a USB Drive. All data on this drive will be erased.
4. Open up the AppleTV USB Creator
5. All settings should be set up automatically.
6. Click the Create Using button, this will now take some time as it will download an appletv update from apple and then patch it with Boxee, and then throw it on your usb drive.
7. Once it is done take the thumb drive out of your computer and place it in the back of your AppleTV
8. Remove the power cord from your AppleTV, wait 5 seconds, plug it back in.
9. You should see tux sitting on an appletv when you boot up and Text will scroll across the screen.
10. Once it stops scrolling it will either say something about shutting it down or “ssh frontrow@appletv.local ….” unplug the power cord again
11. Take out the USB Drive
12. Plug the thumb drive back in and you are all set
13. You will need to go to Boxee > Update and Select boxee before you can launch it, this will download and install the software.  Also select the Launcher Option.  It is a wise idea to do this on a monthly basis to ensure you stay up to date.
14. You can launch Boxee by going to Boxee > Boxee.
15. When it asks for a username and password use your boxee information if you don’t have it ask for a Boxee invitation in the forums!
