Someone getting into your email not only violates your privacy but also your safety. Did you know if someone has access to your email they can get into almost any website you have an account on? Well google silently rolled out a new feature to gmail a while ago to aid in just this!

If you log into your gmail and go near the bottem of the page it will say something like this:

Last account activity: 17 minutes ago on this computer. Details

Now if you click on the details it will show the last 5 connections to gmail, if you see a different IP Address connected to it via web/pop/etc and you aren’t aware of that connection there is a good chance someone is snooping in on your emails. If you see a unrecognized address i reccomend tracing the ip to see a general location where it comes from. You can do this by going to http://www.hostip.info/ and entering the IP. If it is from a distant place it is very likely you have been hacked and should do the following:

  • Change your password to not only email but any sensitive information such as your bank account.
  • Click the “Sign out from all locations” that is displayed when clicking details mentioned above
  • Monitor your status closely
