DrillWho here owns one of those DeWalt 24 volt monster power drills? As everyone knows, when the time comes that you need to drill a hole, the battery ends up being dead. The problem that causes this is: most (if not all) drills and other portable tools don’t have On/Off switches. Leaving a battery in the drill when you dont need to use it will allow the power to dissipate quicker.

The Fix? Oh, simple! Why don’t you- take the battery out when your not using it! Just set it aside. Also keep in mind, if your not going to be using your drill for months at a time, the battery is obviously not going to hold for months either.

NiCad cells will discharge naturally at a rate of about 3% daily. There is nothing you can do to stop this. The best thing to do is give the battery a full charge at the end of the day when your done using it.

NiCads also tend to grow “hairs” or “crystals” in them, this also happens naturally over time. Its magnified by overheating the battery, and improper charge techniques which some would say cause the “memory effect”. This all will shorten the life of a nicad.

This can all be reversed fairly easy will a simple trick to burst the hairs in the cell. All it takes is a jolt from a good battery. I found this guide very helpful when I was looking for a repair for my Craftsman and Dewalt batteries. It can be found at http://www.nicadbatteryfix.com

    Hi,
Yes, MARV i right, NiCd batteries discharge about 3%.
But i found another website, and purchase the info, and it works on my 4 tool batteries, and i think its a good deal for just $4.99, by the way, it was an instant download.
    Here is the Web site

David, so the repair worked well for you? I am thinking about trying it but I noticed the download file is WinRar. Why is that?! What a hassle to have to convert the file from some hard to use format, that you also need to download. I am leary about things like that. The more stuff you download, the better chance for viruses. Just my thought! The nicadbatteryfix website shows a lot of good feedback in their comments page, I might try them even though its an extra dollar.
