Tip TuesdayHiccups are caused by an involuntary spasm of the diaphragm; typically this repeats several times a minute. The sudden rush of air into the lungs causes the glottis to close, creating the “hic” noise. These tips may not have worked for the girl who had hiccups for 37 days, but here is a small list of the simple remedies to try before you get stuck with them for a few weeks, months, or even years.

How to cure your hiccups:

  • Hold your breath for as long as you can.
  • Get a cup of water and gulp the water every 5 seconds for 1 minute.
  • Get a tablespoon of sugar and down-it.
  • Suck on a jolly rancher. Sugar is a good solution!
  • Get someone to scare you
  • Have a friend bet you the next time you hiccup, they owe you 5 dollars.
  • Jog in place for 2 minutes. You are tuning your diaphragm to-pace.

Those are some suggestions we have on curing your hiccups. Do you have a special technique that always works? Share it with us in the comments!

also this is weird solution, but you can sip a cup of water 7 times while balancing a spoon or straw on your nose from the other side of the cup or on the rim….it works every time!

Old polish thing that always works; stick out your tongue and pinch a little back from the tip between your finger and thumb. then, pull down gently. this stretches out the diaphragm. I know it works for me!
