Why People Say the Internet May Slowdown
Posted by: ipp in Interesting & Fun, Technology, tags: Explanation, IdeaEver wonder what would happen if thousands of people, flushed their toilet(s) at the same time? Well it may just happen… digitally in a few years when everyone starts streaming high def content, talking via VoIP, and downloading a gigabyte after gigabyte.
The “internet” is limited to how much data the internet backbones can handle. At the rate internet usage is going we will be maxing out the pipe according to “experts”. A similiar effect can be seen now, with power during the summer, all the energy guzzling cooling products get turned on and power becomes flakey.
Also keep in mind the whole internet does not need to go down to create hell for site owners. If just simple sites such as TinyURL and Youtube went down webmasters would be in for some trouble as a lot depend on those services to aid their site. A lot of links and embeded videos would stop working in the blink of an eye.
What can you do to prevent this? Nothing really unless you want to donate $100,000,000,000.00 to aid the backbone upgrade. Just keep in mind this is nothing new, there has been plenty of time to upgrade but why would a company want to spend money and upgrade, when they could just filter traffic.
Don’t believe me that people are saying the internet will slow down? Just look at google! But then again people still say the Earth is flat.
