Ok your linux system is 100% hung you can’t use Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or Control+Alt+F1-F7 to switch terminals. Do NOT unplug/reboot your system physically as you probably know when a computer suddenly stops it can cause physical damage. Here is a “hidden” way to reboot that linux system.

How

  1. Hold Ctrl+Alt+SysReq(print screen)
  2. Type in REISUB an easy way to remember this is Busier backwards. Note: Nothing will happen until the last key is pressed
  3. Your computer shall reboot now if it doesn’t try it again and if that fails you will have to physically reboot your machine.

If your wondering what this means:

R gives back control of the keyboard
E sends all processes but init the term singal
I sends all processes but init the kill signal
S issues a sync
U mounts all filesystem ro(read only) to prevent a fsck at reboot
B reboots the system
