Here at Tutorial Ninjas, we have decided to do a new weekly segment called Hidden Feature. Every Wednsday, we will post a way to do something new and exciting with something that has become old and boring. This week, we will be utilizing Google’s Gmail as a place to store up to 2.8 gigs (at time of writing) on the web for free, where you can access the files anywhere you go. This approach lets you ditch the flash drive, while still being able to store files conveniently.
What you need:
- Firefox
- GSpace (a firefox addon)
- Gmail Account (they’re free!)
The How:
- Go to Tools > Gspace (I am on a mac so it may be a bit different for you windows folk!)
- If you do not see your gmail account near the top left click Manage Accounts and add your gmail account.
- After your logged in, you should be able to click on your files on the left and click the right arrow to upload files to gmail, and if you click the left arrow you can download them!
- You can also click the G in the lower right hand corner of Firefox and drag n drop your files!
Features(next to inbox) Only accessable from the tools> Gspace menu.:
- File Transfer Mode: Transfer Files.
- Player Mode: Lets you stream MP3’s from gspace.
- Photo Mode: Click on a photo on gspace and it will display it, doesn’t like .gifs.
- Gmail Drive Mode: I am actually not sue the real purpose of this one sorry folks!
You may want to create a filter so it automatically archives any messages:
- Login to the actual gmail web interface.
- Click on “Create Filter” link at the top
- Give your email address in the “From” and “To” fields. Also, give “d$” in the subject field (as the subject contains d$ at the end).
- Click “Next step” button. Here mark the checkbox which says “Skip the inbox(archive it)“. You can also give a label at the “Apply the label” dropdown (recommended). This would be useful when you want to search for a particular file at a later point.
- Click “Add Filter” and you are done. Now the uploaded files(emails) are not shown in the inbox.
By The Way: The contest will be between 7 and 9pm est

This website BLOWS!!!
They are like 6mo - 1yr behind on everything they post!!!
I never claimed this specific tutorial was up to date, we are merely letting our faithful visitors in on our ninja ways. Once we feel we have educated the public enough on what we do for efficiency etc, we will post brand spanking new material. If you want, next week we will post something brand new. Remember, we are aggravated ninjas because of people always having to ask us how to do things. This site is the answer.
Yes, we do have old content. We made that old content ourself, not like it is copy n pasted so technically this is brand new as the word combination is unique. However majority of the stuff is:
#1 on sites our readers dont visit
#2 is so far in google when people look for it they cant find it.
If you can create a site and have something new every day do it. It is a lot tougher to think about stuff to write every single night. The goal of this site is not to have ALL new stuff, it is to create 1 place where people can find answers to a lot of their questions.
