Being the extremely fast and active ninjas that we are, a recent question was asked by “Howakakock” on how to record songs from the Pandora music service onto your own computer.
*Updated Tutorial Here: http://tutorialninjas.net/2009/03/23/recording-off-pandora-take-two/*
First, here is quick bit of background information about Pandora:
- It is an automated music recommendation and internet radio system powered by the Music Genome Project.
- Pandora is free to use forever, how ever you are limited certain features per hour.
- Choose one artist and it will generate a customized playlist for related artists.
To get listening, all you have to do is take a visit to pandora.com and start generating a playlist. Though todays tutorial is not on listening to Pandora, but liking the music selection so much that you would like to save some of it to your hard drive.
What You Need:
- Mozilla Firefox Web Browser
- The latest version of Java
- Pandoras Jar (Download here)
Preparation:
- Download Pandoras Jar.
- Extract the .zip file to your hard drive. (Example: C:\pandora-TutorialNinjas\)
- Browse to the location where you extracted Pandora’s Jar and double click on “pandora” (pandora.jar).
Immediately, a box will open and it should tell you:Welcome to Pandora’s Jar
Attempting to launch on port 80…OK!
[ready, lets grab some MP3's!!!] - Once you are prompted with this message in the box, open Firefox and go to http://localhost:80.
- This will bring you to the modded version of Pandora’s page.
By following the on-screen instructions shown in “Pandoras Jar” on the web page you will instantly be able to rip the songs you are listening to, complete with proper MP3 tags.
Tips!
- Ripped MP3s will be saved to your extracted Pandoras directory in a folder called “MP3″. (Example: C:\pandora-TutorialNinjas\mp3\)
- Turning on the feature “Cruise Control” and then clicking “Save Settings” will cause Pandora Jar to automatically rip every song played.
