Are you stuck in the mud with your Xbox 360? Have you had it a week or two years? Does it work or not? Thats what too many Microsoft representatives are asking. This past week I purchased an Xbox 360, used it for just about one week and on the 7th day it broke. How cool!? If you have a broken Xbox 360, here are some techniques to try and advice to read before you start to panic.
If your Xbox 360 is still under warranty, please save yourself the trouble and call Microsoft or your supplier for a replacement.
“I dont think its broken… yet.”:
Symptoms: If your Xbox freezes during activity.
- Shut off your Xbox 360.
- Unplug the power cord from your wall outlet.
- Wait 5 minutes. (Have a fan blow on your 360 or something to get air around it moving.)
- Plug your power cord back in.
- Turn it on & pray it doesn’t freeze again.
“I think its screwed.”:
Symptoms: Manufacture date in October, constant freezing, 3 red lights of doom.
- Try the steps in the first process (I dont think its broken… yet)
If step #1 does not fix it, proceed to step #2 (ONLY IF YOU HAVE 3 RED LIGHTS) - Cover your 360 in towels. (Less heat to escape)
- Turn your Xbox on and let it run with the 3 lights blinking for 15 minutes.
- After the 15 minutes, remove towels and wait 20 minutes to cool down.
- Turn your 360 on and hope for green lights.
Caution: Possible fire or explosion.
“Its toast. None of these options work.”:
Symptoms: Manufacture date in October, 3 red lights, does not power on, no signal on TV.
- If your 360 was made in October you can call Microsoft and tell them that. They should replace it for free, even if it is out of warranty (not warranty voided).
- If your 360 was not made in October, you can pay Microsoft $160 to fix it for you or you can try to modify some of the techniques listed above.
“Tell my why! Give me an error code, damn it.”:
Symptoms: 3 red lights
An error code can help you find out what the actual problem with your 360 is, so possibly you can fix it yourself (if warranty expired).
- Turn on your 360 and wait till the 3 red lights are flashing.
- Press and hold sync and then press Eject.
- The LEDs will now blink the first number in the code.
- Release the eject button, then press it again.
- The LEDs now blink the second number in the code.
- Release the eject button, then press it again.
- The LEDs now blink the third number in the code.
- Release the eject button, then press it again.
- The LEDs now blink the fourth number in the code.
- Release the eject button, then press it again.
- The LEDs now blink the 3 red lights.
You can tell an error code is being displayed by the change in blink speed of the lights.
Here is how you figure out your error code:
All lights = 0
One light = 1
Two lights= 2
Three lights = 3

mine have none of these symptoms but it will make a weird sound as if something is blocking the CD from spinning and it says that i need to put a thegamei havein it into a 360 console. the game and console i put in it are both 360’s but it will play the backward compatible games. so it will not play 360 games but it will play the backward compatible games.

the disk wont spin i just wont it says unplayable disk and makes a weird noise it doesnt make the same noise when i bought when you turn it on

Microsoft has extended the warranty to 3 years. if you have the Red Ring of Death (3 red lights) just send it to them. or u can send me a private message and i’ll give you some other stuff on how to fix ur 360.

oh and one more thing don’t wiggle ur 360 if there is a disc in it. it will scratch the disc. and don’t sue microsoft if it does happen. some guys already did and they lost.
I have the same problem as Thomas does. It says that the Xbox cannot read the disk but the damn disk doesnt even spin. Any suggestions??????????
OK, I KNOW THAT X BOX 360 HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 3 YRS BUT WHAT IF YOU NEVER BOUGHT ANY WARRANTY WITH IT?

hey. i have a question;i just got my xbox 360 and i was playing the games earlier now everytime i put the disc in it says that its not reading it.
so what do you recommend i should do?
to fix the unplayable disc and i did it believe it or not buy a disc cleaner they are not hard to find, when you get it put it in and see if it can at least read it and if it can you will be able to play for a while and also use it often so you will be happy for many years to come; if it cannot read it call 1-800-4MYXBOX they will help you
ok i have a question…. i have had my 360 for about a year… i was over at one of my friends house and we were playing halo… then i went into another room came back and ii had to leave i picked up my 360 and coke was dripping out of it…. No stopp thats not the good part here that is…. i have played it since then…. its been 7 months since that happened!!!!!!! i have had 4 ring of deaths… and a bunch of 3 lights… but here is the best part now it is only reading call of duty 4… and i cant play anything else!!! Do u have a Solution for that…. my 360 wont fry for some reason it gets hot. i turn it off wait then play some more… but it just wont give me a error code.. and im scarred that they wont fix it becuz it has been like this for a while so… i dont know wat i should do.. u got a clue??????

my 360 wont spin at all can someone help me?
it happened when i was in the middle of a race on line on forza motorsports 2 it wont do anything. But make a loud buzzing and clunking sound like its trying to load and cant.

no page out there has any help for the 360 , they r full off questions but no answers. im on my second xbox360 , it has no picture , just sound.how do these companys get away with it?? its really screwed.i have to wait 30 days for eb games to get more “refurbished junk”. thieir replacemnet console lasted about 3 weeks and died. it was full off dust when i got it. the exhaust fans were caked in dust!! im going to wait 30 days and keep the piece off junk in the freezer till i give it back to them hahaha , thatll learn them.
mine has none of these symptoms, the video just doesnt show. it turns on no weird sounds and the audio is working fine. the only thing broken is the video for some reason
my 360 is confusing. it has been working fine since i had it but lately when i play xbox live on any game theres lines and dots throughout the whole screen on every game but only on xbox live. also lately i turned it on about 10 times and i got the red rings. every once in a while it works nd i dont understand whats wrong with it. please help me

Elite had noisy dvdRom in April and wouldn’t read game discs, had it replaced under warranty.
Just last week in August, All of the sudden no video and no sound. No red lights, lights look normal. No video and sound from hdmi or rca. I’m really bummed about it, only solution i found was forcing a 3RoD but even if it works I wont trust the machine after that.
