This is a tutorial for picking pin-tumbler locks, they are the most commonly used on houses. On special request I (themaceisback) can give tutorials on other types of locks, such as wafer and double-wafer locks.

WARNING: IT IS ILLEGAL TO HAVE LOCK PICKS ON YOURSELF WHILE WALKING AROUND UNLESS YOU ARE A LOCKSMITH AND CAN PROVE THAT THEY ARE FOR BUSINESS PURPOSES. IN SOME STATES LOCK PICKS ARE ILLEGAL TO OWN OUTSIDE OF CERTIFIED BUSINESSES. IT IS ALSO ILLEGAL TO PICK ANY LOCK THAT YOU NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO PICK. I AM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE IS YOU GET IN TROUBLE BY PICKING ANY LOCKS. THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY AND THIS INFORMATION SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN REAL LIFE.

How A Lock Works:

To understand how to pick a lock you must understand how a lock works. Todays pin-tumbler locks are based on an ancient Egyptian design. By inserting a key you align up a set of pins that each have 2 pins, the top pin and the bottom pin. They are cut at different lengths and the shear line is different for each. The shear line is the point where the pins line up with the shell of the lock and frees up the lock to be opened. By inserting a key the shear line lines up with the shell of the lock and therefore can be turned. If the wrong key is inserted, some shear lines don’t match up, and when the lock is turned, and because those pins are in the way, the lock does not open.

How To Pick A Lock:

To pick the lock you must have a tension wrench and a lock pick (a diamond pick, hook pick, or a simple snake rake will do).

  1. Diamond Pick

  2. Hook Pick

  3. Snake Rake

  4. Tension Wrench
    Tension Wrench

It is hard to tell what a tension wrench looks like from this picture, but it is a small flat piece of metal bent at a 90 degree angle. You can make one at home by extensively grinding down a torc wrench until it is flat.

  1. First off you insert the tension wrench into the side of the lock which doesn’t have the pins.(It is the side closest to the outside of the tube. Part of the lock won’t reach the very outside of the tube, and that is the part that houses the pins.)
  2. Next, put a little pressure on the tension wrench so that the tube will spin towards the inside of the door, but going up.For instance, if you were on the outside of the door, and the handle was on the left, you would put pressure on the tension wrench so that it would spin clockwise, and the exact opposite for if the lock is on the right of the door from the outside.

Picking with a hook or diamond pick:

  1. Once you have tension on the wrench insert your diamond or hook pick into to the lock and giggling it until it reaches the end of the lock.
  2. There, you find the pin with your pick and slowly push down on your end of the lock pick so that the front end goes up.
  3. Once you feel and hear a “click” stop lifting up and pull the pick out a bit so that you come to the nest pin and so on.
  4. Repeat that on all of the pins.

If the lock doesn’t open, you have pushed a pin to far up and is blocking the tube from spinning. If that happens, slowly release the pressure, so that the pin that is blocking the tube will fall and the tube will spin. If it doesn’t spin, repeat until it does.Picking with a snake rake:

A rake is the easy way to pick a lock. After you insert the tension wrench and apply pressure insert the snake rake into the back of the lock and then pull sharply out. Repeat several times with the method of slowly releasing pressure and your lock should open!

Have fun picking, legally.

I would suggest Tactical Innovations Inc. for lock picks and lock pick guns.

Wii Internet Channel

The infamous Nintendo Wii console that has outsold the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 has a feature not utilized by many of its owners, known as web browsing. Yes, I know Playstation 3 has this feature, but for this “waste of a console” it is truly something to brag about. The browser integrated in the Nintendo Wii is powered by Opera which comes with flash and audio support. Care for some Youtube?

Note: Even though a bias may be present through my words, I have nothing against the Wii or any other consoles. This is souly educational and informational literature, and how you interpret it is non-debatable.

Result:

You will be able to browse the internet on your Nintendo Wii console using your Wiimote. With this, you can play Flash games you find on the internet (I.E. Tutorial Ninjas arcade), stream videos and much more.

Accessing the Internet:

So we setup our Wii for the internet, installed the Internet Channel and its all good to go! Now you are thinking… how do I get on the internet and start searching?

  1. On the Wii Menu, click “Internet Channel”.
  2. The Internet Channel will then come to focus. Start the web browser by clicking “Start”.
  3. After a few seconds of loading, you will then be greeted with the Wii’s (Opera Powered) Web Browser home screen.
  4. You can start to navigate web pages by pressing the “WWW” button and then entering in your desired web page using the on-screen keyboard. Be sure to press “OK” when complete, and don’t forget to type in “www.” or “.com”, “.net”, or what ever at the end of your web address.

Happy Wii Surfing and don’t forget to check out our site on your Wii… it might just be the next best thing. ;)

Wii PointsAfter you have setup your Wii Shop and wireless internet connection on your Nintendo Wii, you are probably wondering whats next. The Wii Internet Channel is a popular addition many are adding to their consoles, how ever after some quick searching on the internet, the Wii Internet Channel will no longer remain as a free download (starting July 1st 2007). Its time to get your download on, because you don’t want to miss out on this freebie!

Earlier this month Nintendo had made the announcement, however I am not your average gamer so the information was deemed unalarming. Currently, the only information I do know is that Nintendo plans on charging Wii users 500 Wii Points (or $5) to download the channel in the future.

Result:

Add and download the Internet Channel to your Wii Menu.

How:

  1. Turn on your Wii and access the main menu.
  2. Click “Wii Shop”. Press “Start”.
  3. Once it is done loading, press “Start Shopping”.
  4. In the Wii Shop Channel, click “Wii Ware”.
  5. Click the “Internet Channel” listing in the Catalog.
  6. Press “Download”. A confirmation box will appear. Just press “OK”. (Bottom right)
  7. Another confirmation box will appear about the size of the download. “Download this software now?”. Press “Yes”. (Bottom left)
  8. The download will now start with Mario running across the bottom of the screen. Be patient, it may take a few minutes to a while.
  9. Once complete, it will tell you “Download Successful”. Just go back to your Wii Menu and you are all setup!

Wii Internet ChannelThe Nintendo Wii, like Xbox 360 has its own online shopping center. In it, you can purchase “Virtual Consoles” such as Zelda II or Golden Axe II. If that is not your preference, in the Wii Shop you can also download “Wii Ware”. These are applications you can use on your Wii such as a web browser or voting system. The features and applications are endless, as long as Nintendo provides them.

Note: Even though a bias may be present through my words, I have nothing against the Wii or any other consoles. This is souly educational and informational literature, and how you interpret it is non-debatable.

Result:

You will be able to download content and applications for your Nintendo Wii console. In addition, while setting this up you will be able to connect wirelessly to the internet on your Wii.

  7. Click “Search for an Access Point”.
  8. It will scan for wireless internet signals and then prompt you to “Choose the access point you want to connect to” and press “Ok”.
  9. Now it will list the wireless signals found. Choose the signal of the network you want to connect to. If you have a password on your network, it will prompt you to enter it. click for image
  10. Finally, it will ask you “Do you want to save these settings?”. Press “Ok”.

Finalizing:

Once you have saved your settings, it will prompt you to test your signal… so lets test it! Continuing on…

  1. It will tell you “Connection settings have been saved. Choose OK to start a connection test.” Now thats your cue to press “Ok”.
  2. La la la, “Testing Connection”.
