So recently I got a new phone, its quite nice and despite the struggles im having with things, i seem to make progress every day… and sometimes no progress at all. I screw up things, almost break my phone, within 5 days of owning it I have modded it almost “out”. It has no more standard ringtones, free internet access, custom wallpapers, FLIX enabled, and many more things I have yet to do with it like getting games to work… some how. BitPim is a custom phone manager specialized to use with CDMA phones. These are ones like Verizon and Nextel. The type of phone really doesnt matter, its the carrier that sets your boundaries.
So to get things to the picture, the v325i is a new phone in general, so it isnt really supported anywhere… or so we think. After much messing around I found out how to get the v325i full fledeged working in BitPim and it only requires a few mouse clicks! Here we go!
Prerequsites: You need to have DriverTool installed on your computer. If you do not I provide you both download links. Be sure to download and install the proper one according to your phone model.
DriverTool Standard - Download
DriverTool for v325i - Download
Note: Install DriverTool without your phone plugged in! Without doing so can cause problems from the start.
- Plug your phone in, and if you are using MSU or RSD, dont start it!
- Wait about 10 seconds or so, let it detect… OK!
- Open up BitPim. I am not going to tell you how to open BitPim because if your going to be doing some serious cellphone hacking you better know what the Start Menu is at the least. (DO NOT start BitFling, i said BitPim!)
- If its prompting you to find / detect a cellphone, say Yes you would like to “Run Settings”. (If it doesnt prompt you automatically, go to Edit > Detect Phone.)
- In the BitPim Settings:
- Phonetype: V710
- I know we are not using a V710, but select it anyways! It has the same USB “ideas”.
- Com Port: COM3 (Standard for most computers)
- To be sure, click “Browse…” and under the “======Availible Ports======” you should see “Motorola USB Modem” as an option. Double click it, or just select it and then press OK. Eather way is fine.
- Autodetect at Startup: Unchecked
- This is because since we are not really using the V710, its going to try and find that out on its own. So you dont have to mess around with settings in BitPim again, uncheck the box.
- SplashScreen Time (sec): 1.0
- I just set it to that because I find 2.5 seconds too long of a “wait” to see the BitPim logo.
- Phonetype: V710
- Press OK in BitPim settings once you did all of the steps listed in #5.
- Literally, your phone is setup. To be sure your v325i is working, go to Edit > Phone Info. It should list as the phone the v325i… so enjoy!
A quick tip about BitPim, I have noticed after mutliple uses that sometimes on default the Filemanager does not show. This can be useful to see it so you can see files on your phone etc. To do this go to View > View Filesystem.
Aside from that, I am not much of a BitPim user myself. How ever there will be more tutorials to come on cellphone modding, hacking, and what have you! All I say right now is keep in mind you can put your phone at serious risk by using these programs, but the fun you get from doing it can be ecstatic.

Great article on BITPIM for V325i. I can’t seem to successfully download the drivers using your link. The website does not respond … any ideas?
I’m getting a V325i also, and I’ll be interested to watch what you do with that phone in the future. Please keep it on the front burner.
Thanks for the instructions–worked like a charm! I’m unable to upload ringtones via bitpim though–did you manage to get that to work? I get a message about the provider blocking access to the directory when I tried to copy a file over manually via the filesystem.
Everything transfers fine for me except ringtones. I still get a message that says those file are locked by service provider. How do I get around that or what am I doing wrong.
Has anyone figured out how to upload ringtones yet? That is the main reason I am looking? Thanks
Thanks for the drivers. I did get the phone to communcate and retreived the info from the phone. I am having issues getting numbers I add with bitpim to trasfer back to the phone. using 3251 thanks, tim
I am getting this error when i attempt to download new contacts.
BitPim version: 0.9.14-official

Please see the help for details on what to do.

got to work… thanks!
On my com port thing ‘Motorola USB Modem’ does not show up
What am I doing wrong
If you go into Device Manager, see what list items you see there as far as COM goes. Try right clicking and doing a refresh list.
Thanks for the tutorial! I have a 325i and got it to work great, except for ringtones. No ringtones are downloaded from the phone to replace. I have gotten pictures on the phone, and now I have great looking pictures to use as wallpapers! If only I could hack my phone to get better service in my house!
To say thank you would not be enough. I work at a Radio Shack that sells Verizon. A customer came in last week and told me that her husband had died and the only current pictures she had were on her 325i. She wanted to know if I would be able to get them off the phone for her. I told her I would try. I already had bitpim as I have an LG and the cable is the same as my PDA, so I had everything but the drivers. I followed your instructions and now I have just burned a CD for her. She didn’t want the phone anymore, so I bought it from her. I know most of the time we use bitpim and other stuff to see what we can do. Well this is one time our work has made a lady very happy. Thanks again.
When I plug my phone in, it asks to install new hardware.. so it finds it and installs… i run the drivertool after it unplugged, and when i plug the phone back in it asks to install the new hardware… what am i doin wrong?
I have followed all instuctions to the letter I think but it still will not detect my phone v325i. When I downloaded the v325i driver it says that the driver was v325 v323. Is this the correct driver that was supposed to download. I selected the Motorola usb modem, but still nothing. Can you help?
Thanks
I have used other drivers that work damn well for bit pm and using the phone as a modem on verizons old internet connection. Check out the susteen usb modem driver at http://www.susteen.com/download/USB_Susteen_Driver.zip
its all you need. It also works with the Motorola Phone tools as well. Heck I think I even use this for the moto razr v3m as well.
did not work at all on my 325i
THANK YOU… THANK YOU… THANK YOU… THANK YOU…
Java! You have made my Motorola day… After I install the DriverTool all my problems of the last 3 years of Motorola-V3c and Verizon’s bull shit went away. Every thing started working like it should have from day ONE.
THANK YOU… THANK YOU… THANK YOU… THANK YOU…

You my Friend, are a Genious. This ‘hack’/fix worked great. I was working on this for 4 hours with no luck until i ran across this page. Stupid thing is, this phone has been replaced and I wasted a whole evening just trying to pull of pix. Thanks again.
