Ok, first off I am going to give you tips on how to burn more calories when you are doing your every day things (aka metabolism). Also I am no professional, and base this off of success stories and articles I have red through out the years.

  • First a few reminders (Don’t worry we will get to the weight loss soon enough!)
    • You won’t lose 20 pounds+ in a month, and if you manage to do this you will gain 20 pounds the next. Its just a shot in your metabolism.
    • You do not lose weight immediately, you build up muscle and may actually gain weight (but look better :-)). After a month you should have enough muscle for it to start burning the fat and that is when you will really notice.
    • You may gain weight just due to “water weight” and not fat in your diet. Keep it up, after a month you should start noticing.
  • Losing It
    • Drink cold water (at least 8 ounces) a day. Water actually will increase your metabolism without adding any calories. Cold water has more of an effect then room temperature due to the body having to warm it up. You should burn ~10 pounds extra a year by drinking some water each day.
    • Try green tea instead of coffee or soda if you are in need of caffeine. Green Tea has some caffeine but also other ingredients which increase your metabolism instead of slowing it down.
    • Don’t go long periods of time without eating, try to split up your large meals in half eating every few hours. Try an apple or toast for breakfast if your not a big morning eater. By eating little you are adding calories as you burn them, minimalizing the conversion to fat.
    • Find a fun way to exercise but don’t watch the time or calorie count, since then it turns into just another exercise. I recommend getting Dance Dance Revolution (DDR, game system) or Stepmania (computer). http://redoctane.com has great pads, I personally have an Afterburner and two ignitions.
    • Don’t eat large meals before bed, your largest meals should be in the morning and then get smaller and smaller as night comes. Your metabolism drops significantly while you sleep so that excess food is turning into fat.
    • Park a bit farther away, you’d be surprised how much a little extra walking will help.
    • Don’t stop right away, you will not see immediate results most likely with exercising especially on the scale. You are building up muscle (which weighs more than fat) and hopefully a month into training you will have enough muscle for it to start eating up a noticeable amount of fat.
    • If exercising change it up, and change the intensity of your workout. Your muscles will get use to the movements lower the amount of muscle build up/energy used.
    • If you flex your abs during some normal exercise such as running or playing DDR it will tone up those abs giving you that desirable look.
    • If your hungry try drinking something, a fair majority of the time when your hungry your really only thirsty.
    • Eat slow, if you eat fast you are likely to actually overeat. Due to your brain not being able to tell when you are full or not.

Hopefully these tips will help you, if they do be sure to spread the word!
