I will definitely tell you that Linux is by far the best operating system. This is also by far my own opinion. Now all of us learn through mistakes, and sometimes the hardest way too. So tonight, im going to tell you how to reinstall your boot loader if you are using openSuSE 10.2.

Why?

  • Your computer with Linux will not boot.
  • You uninstalled Windows XP (or other) and cant get back into Linux.

There are many other possibility’s too, its a common problem however, I couldn’t find a simple answer for the problem.

How:

  1. Insert your openSuSE 10.2 DVD into your drive, and restart your computer.
  2. Be sure to boot to your CD/DVD-ROM drive! THIS IS IMPORTANT!
  3. Once at the SuSE CD boot menu, select Installation.
  4. In the installer, select your language and press Next.
  5. Agree to the Licencing and press Next.
  6. Select “Other Options” instead of “New Installation” and press Next.
  7. Click “Repair Installed System”.
  8. At the bottom, select “Expert Tools”
  9. Now click “Install New Boot Loader” (blue header).

Part 2 (Simple!)

  1. Make the changes needed to your boot loader, and click Next.
  2. Finish the install and reboot your system without booting to your CD drive, but to your hard drive which has Linux installed.
  3. Enjoy!
