So I am here to tell you about this great OS, the OS of Linux.
It doesn’t come in a box, or cost any money.
The things you can do with it are actually quite funny.

Scanning network traffic, to brewing a cup of tea,
Surfing the web, to compilen with the good ol’ GCC.

So this rhyme is definitely beyond corny,
and chances are you are —

Ok, so that rhyme was not rhymish, and unfinished too. Its java here on the to tell you about my own Linux experience. This is all opinion, and nothing should be considered offensive because I am telling you this is not an article to convince but to reveal. On with the show!

It started when I used my first Mac. So long ago i can barely remember the name of it. I think it was an Apple II (roman numeral for 2). Friends of the family introduced me to the machine, and since i liked to dissect things with it so much they told me about Linux. So I had an old computer laying around in my house. I started out with Red Hat of course, with the 600 page manual and all the features you can do. Ok, so I got bored of it, and what is a computer without internet in 1997? So, I ended up ditching the operating system. Years passed (2001?) and the motivation struck me. I loaded every popular distro Live! CD I could find on the internet onto many CDs. I tested each out one by one, oblivious to the experience required to setup my wireless LAN card, and other peripherals.

By now I was quite tired with the OS. The only way I could get it working was on a laptop or computer connected via NIC (Ethernet). Since my computer was not wired, or a laptop (PCMCIA), I had no choice but to use Windows till I found out how to setup my wireless card. Time passed more and more, and by now were up to 2005. I was introduced to Fedora and its Core 4 (at least I think thats what it was at the time). I maintained hope that one day the Linux OS would easily readily support my wireless networking card.
Finally, a friend of mine goes by the nickname of Ipp introduced me to a Linux, I had never heard of before. It was openSuSE, and happened to be owned by the company of Novell. A fantastic company might I comment, creators of the best Network Operating System around. I struggled with my wireless networking card. I had heard about this thing called “ndiswrapper” and never knew how to use it. With SuSE at my side, I conquered my 8 year task of getting wireless internet on a Linux computer. The majority of you are reading this article saying to yourself you got it working in a day. Well after much time (8 years), I was able to get it working in one day. It only took me that one day to realize the true beauty of the Linux operating system.

It is by far the most secure operating system around, aside from OS X. Every tool I ever wanted to use was included in Linux, or for free install. Including a 100 times better interface with animation of windows and 3D desktops. Multiple workspaces and more!

After my long struggle of this operating system (Linux), it took me those 8 years to convince myself that Win, does really blow. Currently at the time of this article I am going to purchase a brand new hard drive dedicated just to Linux. I do use a few features on Windows like a real-time song mixing application and much more, how ever the Linux OS has over come me, and within a few days it will consume the activity my computer.

Now after this article I wrote, and on the side note Linux features many cool little addons. Programs and more that are full of what you want! If you are a torrenter, I highly advise you try out rTorrent made for Linux. The ease of use and reliability of it is unbelievable! I used to be a high-class Azureus user, and what did I know about the world around me? Nothing, because its come up to now that rTorrent is another one of those small but many things that convince me how much better the Linux OS really is.

I’m sure as I continue to use Linux in my future I will learn even more and more about the things I would like to do. Ask Ipp, he witnessed my improvement and adaptation of how quickly I hooked into Linux. Constantly curious on how to do everything, I finally found reliability in the OS itself. I could trust it, and by the end of 1 week straight use of Linux I knew how to do the hoo’s and haa’s of one of the best operating systems (the best OS being OS X).

So there you have it, a Linux summary all-in-one. Its worth the struggle but not the wait, because if it were less than 8 years I would have started a long time ago.

Keep in mind, its the little things in life that let you get through your days. So for switching to Linux to be able to enjoy the true features of a well performing operating system is more than a gift.
