How and Why to take advantage of RSS Feeds.
Posted by: ipp in Technology, tags: Reasons, RSS FeedsWhat:
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and is used to publish frequently updated pages.
Why use it:
It allows you to view all your favorite sites and see what is updated without having to actually go to the sites. Also it dramastically saves you time when browsing sites. Not to mention it gets rid of all those advertisements.
How:
It is pretty straight forward just get a client, for the sake of ease I will describe how to do it with Google Reader since it can be done from Windows, Linux, and Mac.
- Go to reader.google.com and sign in with any google account(gmail perhaps) or register.
- Once in click Add subscription on the left.
- Type in the url and hope it has a rss feed.
- Now you can click on the site under “All subscriptions” and view the rss.
- This isn’t necessary but i recommend clicking on “List View”, to see more of the articles without scrolling.
Cool things with Google Reader:
- Like a particular post? Star it for easy viewing when ever you need it.
- If you use a os x check out Google Reader Notifier, it will check your feeds on a set interval and notify you when their is an update.
